When a military parent is deployed, childhood can feel anything but “normal.” National Guard and Reserve families face additional challenges: without a military base community, unexpected deployments disrupt family life — not to mention finances. For almost 20 years, Our Military Kids' award-winning, research-informed approach has provided nearly $32 million in grants to over 82,000 military children whose parents are overseas or injured in combat. From sports to fine arts to enrichment activities or tutoring, each young person is empowered to choose an extracurricular activity to engage in — building their self-confidence and increasing their mental wellness, improving the service member's morale, and enhancing the family's overall well-being. An award certificate welcomes each participant to OMK's vast community of children, strengthening their sense of connection to each other. Large or small, all gifts here make a difference.
