It’s a tall order: boost students’ academic achievement, heighten their environmental awareness, and inspire the next generation of innovators – using just one program. Out Teach is up to the task. Working with 176 teachers and 2,000 students at Title I elementary schools across Greater Washington, Out Teach creates academically integrated outdoor classrooms and provides coaching to help teachers use them effectively. These are more than just vegetable gardens: shaded classroom areas, ADA-compliant pathways, rainwater collection facilities, and numerous other educational and environmental features create hands-on, outdoor classroom space for the entire school. A comprehensive teacher training program familiarizes educators with outdoor instruction and hands-on teaching techniques that engage students as scientists. The result? 100% of participating teachers reported feeling confident and prepared to lead outdoor, real-world science instruction. Your support helps grow young minds.

Finally, 76+ critical, local nonprofits are selected for inclusion in Spur Local's annual print and digital catalog, and enter a four-year partnership with us. Since 2003, we have raised over $65 million for nonprofits across the Greater Washington region. We charge no fees and raise funds separately to support our work.
