The all-volunteer scientists, technologists, engineers, and mathematicians of RESET engage students, many of whom live or attend school in low-income neighborhoods, in the STEM world, encouraging them to consider a future in the field. RESET reaches 3,400 youngsters annually in school, after school, in Girl Scout troops, low-income housing settings, and science and STEM fairs. Going forward, distance learning techniques developed during the pandemic will amplify the in-person model. Volunteers come from the National Science Foundation, EPA, NIH, Patent and Trademark Office, and others. In schools, they work closely with classroom teachers to lead hands-on experiments that reinforce the curriculum. The goal is not just to teach chemistry or robotics, but to provide children with positive, exciting science interactions – created by those who have made this their life's work. They can inspire a whole new generation of eager inventors and space explorers!
