In recent years, as in any gentrifying neighborhood, poverty has become less visible in Ward 1. But it remains present … and debilitating. So, Jubilee Housing ensures affordable homes for 550 low-income residents through its ten housing units in Adams Morgan, Columbia Heights, and Mount Pleasant, complemented by an array of support services. A Youth Services program provides kids with a safe place to meet mentors, receive homework help, and simply enjoy the company of their peers. An enrichment program helps adults save money, improve fitness and nutrition, and prepare to own a home. And Jubilee’s Re-entry Housing Initiative serves up to 45 returning citizens every year, providing them with safe, supportive housing in a thriving neighborhood. A city that is livable for every family at every income level – don’t we all want that?
