General Information

  • Volunteer Opportunities / Responsibilities: Beacon House is an after-school tutoring and mentoring program for low-income children and youth, ages 5-18, located a mile south of Catholic University, off of Rhode Island Ave. and 4th Street, N.E. We help children with their homework each day after school between the hours of 3:30 and 5:30. On Monday evening we operate a two hour math and reading tutoring program from 6-8:00 p.m. We need volunteers for either or both programs. The afternoon help-with-homework program can accommodate variable schedules. The Monday tutoring program calls for a weekly commitment to work with one student through the school year.

Other volunteer opportunities include chaperoning field trips on Saturdays, helping to coach football, basketball, baseball and cheerleading teams, teaching children creative arts, etc.
