Many people struggle to find help during a mental health crisis, but for someone living in poverty, the barriers to treatment can seem insurmountable. So Aspire Counseling takes its services into the community, offering behavioral and mental health care to all – at low or no cost. Targeting Montgomery County’s uninsured and underinsured residents (most of whom are immigrants and minorities), Aspire helps them navigate life’s challenges, whether they are facing grief, anxiety, depression, or trauma. Often, the need is short-term, and with the right tools, recovery is within reach. Every year, Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies helps more than 120 uninsured women overcome prenatal and postpartum depression through in-home therapy sessions. A partnership with Mobile Medical Care brings mental health services into primary care clinics (reaching 2,143 low-income patients in 2015 alone). And the Positive Aging program places therapists at senior centers and in subsidized housing communities where they annually offer on-site counseling to more than 140 seniors struggling with depression. Restoring hope to so many, Aspire is truly one-of-a-kind.
