- Description of Volunteer Opportunities / Responsibilities: Math Tutoring - expertise ranging from arithmetic to algebra and geometry. Tutors would be working with 1-2 students for at least 50 minutes. Assistance is needed during school hours (8-3:30) and after school from 3:30-5:00.
Writing / English Tutoring - ideal background would be teaching experience in English. Specific class times are Wednesday and Thursday 8-9, 9-10, and 12:30-1:30.
Guest Speakers and Presenters:
■College Prep Classes- Business men and women to share their professional experiences, presenters encourage students to keep studying hard, and to motivate students to begin thinking about their life goals. Speakers would discuss concepts and key terms that are particular to their industry (e.g. legal, banking, healthcare, real estate, entrepreneurship). Classes are on Thursday 8:45-9:45, 9:45-10:45, and 12:30-1:30.
■Professional Development Club- Speakers are needed to come to this club and present their work experiences to the club members. This Club meets Wednesday after school from 3:45-5:00.
Skills Training- Corporate Work Study Program- In addition to attending school, DBCR students go to a professional work place one day per week. Volunteers are needed to help with job skills such as, filing, computer training, phone etiquette, and associated work place skills. Interpersonal communication skills assistance is also needed. Volunteers are needed during and after school.
Development Office - Administrative and Clerical Support - Help is needed with a host of tasks, including filing, data entry and occassional mailings.
■Event Assistance - Celebrity Waiters Luncheon Volunteers - Luncheon date is April 26, 2012. Volunteers are needed for a variety of tasks prior to the event and during the luncheon. Pre-event activities include: general planning assistance, assisting with mailings, processing and tracking responses; soliciting auction items from restaurants, stores, etc.; communicating with attendees and/or waiters. Hours: Will vary depending on the task.
■Event day activities: assisting with set up for the event, registration, cashier assistance; coordinating student ambassadors, serving as event facilitators.
Communication and Public Relations- Volunteers are needed to help "spread the word" of the unique environment at DBCR and encourage people to get involved. Some areas of assistance are:
■Provide advertising opportunities to showcase DBCR
■Utilize professional skills to provide assistance to school and encourage businesses to provide work placement for students
